Thoughtful consumption is consuming, yes, as we all desire wants and needs, but with the rest of the humanity in mind. Simply put, not being selfish.
My niece Emma always eats with two hands. One strawberry in left hand, another in right, bite, switch hands, grab another. Two strawberries at all times.
It’s in our nature to desire. As writer CS Lewis put it,
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses
easily pleased by easily fleeting things. we are.
Hoarding is the scary side of it. more stuff doesn’t make us happy.
Economy must become more than about money and numbers, or even just profit.Trade As One is just one of many companies that put thoughtful consumption as the basis of their business plan. More to come. More companies, organizations, and entrepreneurs on doing thoughtful sophisticated business.
We desire more than money, more than profit, good of all. Do we?
